Dear Viking Parents:
The first quarter is over! It was filled with numerous peaks and valleys and a variety of joys and challenges. If you are like me, you experienced all of these. Regardless of the experience, it was emotionally, mentally, and physically exhausting for all of us, especially the students. We thank you for understanding that we are operating within parameters defined for us and for knowing that we are doing what we can to optimize opportunities in our “locus of control.” It has been a challenge to have to “color between the lines,” as well as only having a crayon box of 16 from which to choose our colors.
It hasn’t been perfect. It has been a challenge.
But, we are melting down the crayons and trying to come up with new color combinations.
On Thursday, November 19, after parent-teacher conferences end at 6:15 p.m., I am hosting another Parent Information Session. This meeting may be a little longer than most, lasting up to 90 minutes. I haven’t created the presentation, yet, but I have a long list of things to cover, including, but not limited to, the following:
• What the kids are telling us about their RL experiences and their suggestions for improvement;
•What we can/can’t do with regard to changing the bell schedule;
•What the district expects re: synchronous/asynchronous learning minutes and how to color within those lines but with increased creativity and flexibility;
•Supports for students who are experiencing social-emotional, mental health issues;
•After-school tutoring program (begins Nov. 30); and
•Impact of Covid on our school community.
