Theatre at Amundsen High School

At Amundsen High School Theatre, our mission is to cultivate a vibrant, inclusive community where students discover their voices, embrace creativity, and collaborate to produce compelling and diverse performances. We are dedicated to nurturing the artistic growth of each individual, fostering a love for the performing arts, and inspiring a lifelong appreciation for the arts. Through rigorous practice, innovative storytelling, and shared experiences, we aim to empower students to explore their potential and become confident, empathetic, and skilled artists and leaders.
Classes Offered:
 
  • Theater Arts- This is an introductory level course that focuses primarily on the performative aspects of theater. Students will participate in the theatrical process through improvisation, text analysis, and design. Students will engage in theatrical performances of monologues and scenes. The course will include the critique and evaluation of theatrical performances. 
  • Theater Production- In this course, we will analyze theatrical texts for design elements. Students then learn fundamentals of stage design and production including; set and lighting design, make-up, costume design, and sound design. Students apply this knowledge to school productions.
  • MYP Drama I- In this course, we will explore the techniques and skills in dramatic performance, skills and attitudes appropriate to a variety of theatre performance contexts, and theatre theory. Throughout the course, every effort will be made to show how Drama connects to other areas of study. As an honors credit, students in this course will have more assignments and responsibilities than students in a regular course. 
  • MYP Drama II- IB MYP Drama II is where students learn to appreciate diverse aspects of the discipline of theater. Students are introduced to acting, voice, improvisation, and script analysis. The course helps students to contextualize the theatrical experience through examination of theater history, and texts, as well as the process and product of staging performances. The course includes exposure to live theatrical production. As an honors credit, students in this course will have more assignments and responsibilities than students in a regular course. 
 
You will be encouraged to communicate your ideas and consider the thoughts and opinions of others. You will also work to develop yourself as communicating, caring, inquiring, risk-taking, knowledgeable, reflective, open-minded, principled, balanced, and thinking individual.
