Welcome!
Hi! I'm Ms. Benoit. This is my 14th year as an educator! I've taught in New Jersey, New York, the South Side, and at Amundsen. I teach in the History and Diverse Learner Department. This year, I will be teaching Civics, as well as co-teaching World Studies with Mr. Zhang.
I completed my undergraduate degree at Seton Hall University (New Jersey) with a double major in Secondary Education and History. I came to Chicago to earn my Master of Education in Urban Education through the Chicago Teacher Residency at National Louis University. I am endorsed to teach History, Special Education, and English as a Second Language.
Outside of Amundsen, I am on the Board of Directors for NYAP (National Youth Advocate Program), a foster care non-profit, and serve as the chair of the Audit Committee, as well as serving as the Chairperson for the NYAP-Texas Board of Directors. Additionally, I have a Shiba Inu named Apollo and foster Shibas through the Shiba Inu Rescue Association (SIRA). Our current foster, Zelda, will be available for adoption soon, just in case your family is looking for a new puppy. I read a lot; last year I read 101 books- I'm always happy to share recommendations!
A few years ago, I completed a Fulbright Fellowship in Globalized Education which culminated in a trip to Germany to explore the education system in Bonn and Berlin. I'm also an alumnus of both the Stanford University Hollyhock Fellowship and the Chicago Foundation for Education Action Research Leadership Fellowship. By completing all of these programs, I find high value in incorporating mindfulness, globalized education, and student voice/activism into my classroom (students should expect to find all of these wrapped into our civics curriculum).
